Harpist

After completing a Doctorate in Harpsichord in 2009, Susan decided to learn yet one more instrument. A love of Celtic music drew her to the Celtic harp, and so after studying harp basics with Annabelle Renzo in Montreal, she pursued intensive studies with Grainne Hambly in County Mayo, Ireland. She has also taken masterclasses with Kim Roberston and William Jackson.

Susan has recorded two solo harp albums and four collaborative albums. She has also published some of her arrangements in "Dance Tunes & Airs" (solo harp) and "Dance Upon the Strings"  (harp ensemble).

Susan performs frequently with Kyle Burghout (fiddle), and Justin Theriault (flute/whistles/uillean pipes) as the CASTLE trio. They recorded one self-titled album in 2023.

Besides giving solo and collaborative concerts on the harp, Susan is in high demand as a performer for weddings, corporate events, and other important occasions.  Notable venues include the NAC's Fourth Stage, The Chateau Laurier, Landsdowne Pavillion, Chateau Montebello, and the Irish Ambassador's residence.

Susan keeps an active teaching studio in her Barrhaven home, with some students travelling quite a distance for lessons. She is also on faculty at Carleton University where she is available for Celtic harp and harpsichord lessons.

Susan is a grateful recipient of several grants from the Canada Council for the Arts.
