Harpsichordist
Harpsichordist Susan Toman has been passionate about Baroque music since she was a child. Having begun her harpsichord studies during her undergraduate degree, she went on to be a prize winner at the 2007 Brugge International Harpsichord competition. She holds a Doctorate in Music (harpsichord) from McGill University.
From 2011 to 2014, she co-directed La Compagnie Baroque Mont-Royal in Montreal with tenor David Menzies, while freelancing as a performer and instructor. She performed at early music Festivals in Montreal, Bloomington, Rochester, and London, and gave numerous lecture-recitals in both the USA and Canada.
A local of Ottawa since 2014, she has performed with the Ottawa Bach Choir, Theatre of Early Music, Thirteen Strings, and Music & Beyond, to name but a few groups. Active as both a soloist and collaborator, she can be heard in local concert series as well as the house concerts in her Barrhaven home every year.
Susan maintains an active teaching studio in her home, where she gives lessons on harpsichord, piano, and the Celtic harp. Susan is also on Faculty at Carleton University (Ottawa) where she is available for harpsichord and Celtic harp instruction.
Susan's harpsichord discography includes Rameau's Nouvelles suites de clavecin (Centaur Records, 2008) and Road to the Isles (2013).
